for today

for today...

outside my window... 37F/snow showers/wind @ 2:45am
Emergency Weather Alert for high winds. and flooding,
I'm hoping the creek does not overflow it's bank :(
i am thinking... I've never had 'pumpkin spice' anything
i am thankful for... the recent repair of the barn roof
i am wearing... blue jeans, thermal & flannel shirts, MukLuks ankle booties
i am going...  to VOTE on 11/5. and will check out the
Bake Sale in the Township Building while I'm there
i am currently reading... awaiting the new issue of "Sift"
i am hoping... the water heater doesn't need a new thermostat  *sigh*
on my mind... gas @ $2.84/gallon, milk @ $4.05/gallon, butter @ $2.99/lb
pondering these words...
"November comes and November goes,
with the last red berries and the first white snows.
With night coming early, and dawn coming late,
and ice in the bucket and frost by the gate.
The fires burn and the kettles sing,
and earth sinks to rest until next spring."
~  Elizabeth Coatsworth ~
from the kitchen...
rutabagas, turnips, parsnips, fennel, carrots
butternut & delicata squash
red, green & yellow curry paste
a ham hock, for split pea soup
apple butter
around the house... a simmering pot of spices and citrus peels
one of my favorite things...  pumpkin pie
a few plans for the week... rake leaves, chimney cleaning, stack firewood,
place an order with the butcher for a fresh turkey for Thanksgiving
from my lens:
*bare tree limbs, the rain and the wind have taken the last of the leaves*

I enjoyed your Daybook post today. I do like the Elizabeth Coatsworth quotation you shared with us. And that ham hock for split pea soup sounds perfect for a warm meal this time of year. "The last of the leaves" is a perfect name for the photo you posted. Beautiful horses.

Wishing you a beautiful day...
